Winter Car Care Tips & Vehicle Maintenance at Graff Durand

DURAND, Mich., –– Winter is in full effect, which means that if you haven’t thought about it already, it’s time to think about winter vehicle maintenance and car care. At Hank Graff Chevrolet in Durand, we understand that buying or leasing a vehicle is a big investment, so we want to help you extend the life of your vehicle through every season. Whether you have a car, truck, or SUV, during winter your vehicle can suffer from damaging factors like salt, freezing temps, and ice. It's not just your vehicle's performance that is impacted by cold weather and icy roads, but your personal safety as well. With the proper winter car care though, you have no need to worry! We have just launched a new service section on our website that is dedicated to our helpful winter car care tips and vehicle maintenance at Graff Chevrolet. With these simple tips your vehicle will run great through the winter season and beyond!

Winter Car Care Tips & Vehicle Maintenance at Graff Durand

On our Winter Car Care Page you’ll find winter vehicle maintenance tips on –
  • Tires: Tires are probably the most important vehicle component to keeping you safe on slushy and icy winter roads. Upgrading to winter tires will drastically improve your traction, but even just checking the wear of the treads and the tire pressure on your regular tires will help to keep you safe on the road. Click to learn more about winter tires.
  • Batteries: Freezing temperatures are rough on your vehicle’s battery life and slow the chemical reaction which creates the energy needed to start your vehicle. But do you know why you may want to replace your battery if it is any older than two to three years old? Click the link to learn about your car battery.
  • Brakes: Keeping up with brake maintenance throughout every season is important to ensure safety every time you hit the road, however brake maintenance during winter is even more important since your vehicle can require a longer distance to stop in winter weather.  You don't want to be the car that slides through a intersection or into a ditch! Read more about winter brake care by following the link.
  • Oil Changes: Routine oil changes extend the life of your engine and ensure your vehicle is ready to perform for years to come. During the winter, oil changes are even more important because extreme cold temperatures can have a negative effect on oil, making it less effective at keeping your engine components from overheating and warping. Click the link for a list of signs your vehicle needs an oil change.
  • Wiper Blades: A clear view of the road is crucial to safe winter driving. Your vehicle’s wiper blades work hard to remove precipitation from your windshield, and can become worn out, broken, and made ineffective by winter weather in particular. Follow the link to find out if your wiper blades need to be replaced.

Winter weather can make for treacherous driving conditions and it can take a toll on your vehicle. To make sure your vehicle is prepared to protect you through the coldest season of the year, visit our Graff Durand winter car care and vehicle maintenance pages for more information. These pages will teach you how to take the proper steps you need for your car to run its best in the winter season. You can also schedule a service appointment with us online if you’d like us to help with your tires, battery, brakes, oil changes, or wiper blades. We’re always happy to service you here at Graff Chevrolet Durand.

7 Things to Do Around Michigan This Winter

DURAND, Mich., –– The early months of the year can certainly feel like the doldrums in Michigan, with sunset being around 5pm and freezing cold temperatures that really just make you want to stay inside. However, there are ways to enjoy yourself this season while you're waiting for Summer to come (because we all know Spring doesn't really exist in the mitten state). Experience and enjoy these seven things to do around Michigan this winter.

It's the final season of action for the Joe Louis Arena, as it is making way for the new, state-of-the-art Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit. 9 Tips to Keep Your New Year's Resolution on Track

DURAND, Mich., –– It's 2017! You've probably got a New Year's Resolution in mind, even if you have vocalized it yet. If you're serious about it, it's a long road to success and December 31st, and we have nine tips to keep your New Year's resolution on track. Believe in yourself and you can make it happen!

9 Tips to Keep Your New Year's Resolution on Track

Be Realistic -
Make sure that your goals are attainable and realistic. Cutting a bad habit completely out of your life, cold turkey, is not likely going to work. Think about what you really know you can accomplish, start with that as your goal, and then expand on it from there.

Outline You Plan - Preparedness is you best ally to following through with your resolution. In correlation with being realistic about your resolution, break it up into segments or steps. Make the mountain into a bunch of molehills that you can climb each day.

Talk About It - Tell your friends and family about your resolution! They will help support you and keep you accountable to it.

Track Your Progress - Sometimes it's hard to see your actual progress as it's happening. Track the days, and weeks, and incremental steps that you have reached in your pursuit of achieving your goal.

Reward Yourself - Have a treat or get yourself something nice to celebrate the accomplishment on making through a certain amount of time. This will begin to develop a positive reinforcement to your new habit. Also, to help keep your resolution, don't reward yourself with something that will contradict it.

Don't Be Too Hard On Yourself -
You're going to good days and bad days. Sometimes it will be a breeze and other times you'll want to abandon your resolution. Like we mentioned above, the best way to stay positive is to track the incremental steps you accomplish and to celebrate them.

Make a "Pros" and "Cons" List -
What happens if you succeed? What happens if you don't? This list will help keep you motivated during the roughest days of keeping your resolution.

Stay the Course -
It has been scientifically proven that it takes us 21 days for something to become a habit, and six months for it to become part of our personality.

Keep Trying - If you find yourself breaking your resolution, just dust yourself off and get back on track. One misstep (or a handful) does not mean your entire year/resolution is ruined. There's no resolution police to keep you from trying again.

Consult these nine tips to keep your New Year's resolution on track and you'll be on track to achieve your goal! Also, make sure you're prepared for the cold weather and icy winter roads ahead by completing your Winter Car Care routine at our Graff Chevrolet Durand Service Center.
