The Camaro was born on September 26, 1966.
In their press release, Chevy stated, “…for millions of people, it was love at first sight. People have written songs about it, made movies starring it and told numerous Camaro stories in the years since. So to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of history’s most epic cars, we created the most epic Camaro yet.”
The 50th Anniversary Edition is going to look really awesome.
It will be available in both coupe and convertible models. The 50th anniversary edition Camaro will feature 20-inch wheels, a unique grille with satin chrome accents, orange brake calipers, Nightfall Gray Metallic exterior, a unique black leather interior, and other distinct 50th anniversary treatments.
It was almost called the “Panther”.
“Camaro” is a completely made up word. GM considered a laundry list of other names before finally landing on “Camaro” only a few weeks before the official debut. You can see the original Camaro on display.
This summer during the annual Woodward Dream Cruise week in Detroit, thanks to the Historic Vehicle Association, the first Camaro will be on display to the public on August 20th.It’s the third most popular collector car.
Behind only the Chevy Corvette and the Ford Mustang.
The original Camaro had tons of engine options.
Seven to be exact. One of the options, the Z/28, was a special performance package making the Camaro SCCA-race legal.
The Camaro has paced the Indy 500 nine times.
That's the second most overall behind the Corvette at 11.Camaro Celebrations
To celebrate the birthday of the Camaro, a number of festivities have been announced in the Detroit and Lansing areas.
