2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV Nominated for Green Car of the Year

DURAND, Mich., –– Chevrolet's new all-electric vehicle, the 2017 Bolt EV, has been nominated for the Green Car Journal's Green Car of the Year award. This prestigious award is given each year by Green Car Journal, an eco-conscious automotive magazine, to the vehicle that best embodies efficiency, affordability and overall environmental achievement. The 2017 Bolt EV named among four other finalists and the winner will be announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 17th.

The 2017 Bolt's record-setting electric range, an EPA estimated 238 miles, was one of its chief reasons for being nominated as it is the first production electric vehicle to achieve a 200-plus mile driving range. Chevrolet is also aiming to repeat as the title holder, the 2016 Chevrolet Volt won the Green Car of the Year at last year's convention. The Green Car of the Year is selected through a majority vote by an esteemed jury that includes multiple industry leaders and celebrity auto enthusiast Jay Leno.

The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV

The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is designed to be exceptionally aerodynamic and light weight to help its electric motor be as productive as possible. For example, due to having an electric battery motor, the 2017 Bolt does not require air that a conventional motor needs for combustion so the underbody of the car is able to be enclosed and thus more aerodynamic. It doesn't lack style though, as it's expressive proportions and body lines offer a solid, robust stance on the road. The battery's positioning even allows for a flat floor and increased spaciousness in the interior.

The Bolt's 238-mile range allows for five times the mileage needed for the average daily commute of 40 miles. This means you could potentially go multiple of days without having to charge the battery, if you so choose.

Additional features include:
  • Electronic precision shift
  • Michelin self-sealing tires
  • 17" painted aluminum wheels
  • 10.2-inch diagonal color touch-screen
  • Rear vision camera
General Motors and Chevrolet are committed to advancing eco-friendly automotive technology and are proud of their achievement, earning back to back nominations. With the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV being nominated for Green Car of the Year, they hope that another victory after last year's triumph with the 2016 Volt will serve as major step forward in their mission to bring affordable and capable eco-friendly vehicles to the public.

DURAND, Mich. –– In an effort to continue its support for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs across the nation, Chevrolet is raising funds for STEM education with a 2016 Volt donated to FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

FIRST, a K–12 robotics program committed to strengthening and growing STEM programs in the U.S., will auction the 2016 Chevrolet Volt and use the funds raised to improve STEM education in communities struggling to maintain and expand their programs. "The Volt exemplified technology, and behind the next-generation Chevrolet Volt is a diverse team of engineers who understand the power of science and math," said Chevrolet Marketing Director Steve Majoros. "FIRST brings science and math alive outside the classroom, just like we are bringing it alive on the road."

As a Founding and Strategic Partner to FIRST, General Motors has a history of working in association with FIRST teams. After partnering with 866 FIRST teams that totaled 10,000 students across the country in 2014, it makes sense that GM would would be generous enough to raise funds for STEM education with a 2016 Chevrolet Volt at auction.

The future of the automotive industry, and STEM roles in society in general, rests in the minds of today's youth. Companies like GM are taking the initiative to ensure young minds are equipped with the essential knowledge to continue technological and engineering progress by expanding opportunities in STEM education programs in America.

2016 Chevrolet Volt Achieves Impressive Fuel Economy

2016 Chevrolet Volt Achieves Impressive Fuel Economy
© General Motors

DURAND, Mich.– Are you still a skeptic when it comes to electric vehicle technology? We understand your apprehension about the dependability of an electric system as opposed to sticking with the traditional gasoline engine, but the 2016 Chevrolet Volt achieves impressive fuel economy that could change your mind.

Here’s why you should love the Volt: You can drive it 53 miles on pure electricity, up 15 miles from the current Volt, but even more convincing is the Volt achieves 106 miles per gallon electric when you combine the electric drive modes and gasoline operation. On top of that, you get 42 mpg without using the electric drive modes, so either way you’re getting amazing gas mileage.

Right now, Volt owners drive on the vehicle's battery 80 percent of the time. Chevrolet expects that number to increase to 90 percent with the 2016 Volt, and projects it will be capable of traveling 1,000 miles before needing a gas fill-up.

Those are some hefty claims, but the new Volt’s 246-pound weight loss and a new, more efficient 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine definitely play into the improved mpg specifications. Comparatively, the new Volt gets 106 mpg combined to the current Volt’s 37 mpg combined –– that’s a serious upgrade.

The caveat is you’ll end up paying $33,995 for the new Volt, which is more than the current model. However, it seems completely worth it when the 2016 Chevrolet Volt achieves impressive fuel economy, plus the price really isn’t too steep considering how much other comparable sedans cost. You can order yours sometime between late August and fall 2015 at our Clio area Chevy dealer where we also have plenty of certified pre-owned cars and trucks.

Meet the 2016 Chevrolet Volt

Meet the 2016 Chevrolet Volt
DURAND, Mich. - There is a lot of talk about the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show that is going on right now in Las Vegas. While several automakers are demonstrating their up and coming technologies, Chevrolet decided to take things one step further.

Meet the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, the next-generation plug-in hybrid that has been the talk of the 2015 CES. The 2016 Chevy Volt won't be making its official debut until the North American International Auto Show next week, but it did roll onto the stage at CES for a quick 1-minute introduction. Chevrolet did not provide any new details about the Volt.

What we do know is that the 2016 Chevrolet Volt is sporting a new futuristic, angular look. Chevrolet altered the Volt's front fascia, did away with its original symmetrical dual-port "grille" to give the car a more bias look, and added LED daylamps to the fascia. Chevrolet knew just how to keep attendees wanting more as kept the rear of the 2016 covered and out of sight.

One of the most important features of the Volt is its fuel-efficiency and battery range capability. The 2016 Chevy Volt is expected to be improved by 5-12% depending on temperature and driving habits. Although this isn't a huge jump, Chevy drivers sure will love the price of the all-new Volt, which is expected to hit just below the $30,000 mark!

The 2015 North American International Auto Show is just around the corner, so stay tuned for more details about the 2016 Chevrolet Volt from Graff Chevy Durand! Located at 9009 East Lansing Road Durand, MI 48429, Hank Graff Chevrolet Durand is revolutionizing the car buying experience.
