Chevrolet Officially Confirms Production of Bolt EV

Chevrolet Officially Confirms Production of Bolt EV
DURAND, Mich. - Folks, it is happening. Chevrolet has officially confirmed the production of the Bolt EV - a next-genration pure electric vehicle that has been designed to offer more than 200 miles of electric range. The Bolt EV concept was unveiled just a few short months ago at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and now a plan is in the works to have it hitting dealerships in the VERY near future!

Since its debut, consumers have delivered nothing but positive feedback and messages about the Chevrolet Bolt EV. Chevrolet decided that it was now or never when it came to building the vehicle. If they wanted to challenge the status quo of electric vehicles, they needed to get it done and get it done fast. The Chevy Bolt EV is going to change the electric vehicle game as we know it, offering customers in all 50-states a GM-estimated 200 miles of range at the starting price of $30,000. The Bolt EV also features selectable driving modes that are tailored to consumer's driving styles, from their daily commute to cruising around town on the weekends.

Chevrolet officially confirmed that production of the Bolt EV would begin soon at the Orion Assembly facility in Michigan, but an exact start date is still unknown. This $200-million investment will help support the skilled workforce that we have here in Michigan. Governor Rick Snyder expressed just how excited he was that this next-generation electric vehicle would be built in Michigan and that Michigan-made products like the Bolt EV point to a bright future for our state.

As one of the most environmentally friendly facilities in GM's global network, Orion Assembly is without a doubt, the place for the job. The facility is powered by gas from two landfills, annually saving more than 6,300 tons of carbon dioxide from impacting our atmosphere. It also contains a 350-kilowatt solar array that produces enough energy to power 165 homes and sends enough energy back to the grid to power 45 homes.

DURAND, Mich. - This is the Chevrolet Bolt EV concept vehicle. It's an affordable, game-changing, long-range, all-electric vehicle that has been designed to offer more than 200 miles of range with a price tag starting around $30,000.

Chevrolet has plenty in store for us in the future, but their most recent innovation that is producing the most chatter at the 2015 North American International Auto Show is the Chevrolet Bolt EV concept vehicle. The Bolt EV has built upon the foundation of the Chevy Volt and Spark EV, providing customers with an affordable vehicle that can offer a longer-range performance. Whether a driver is headed out on their daily commute or cruising around town on the weekend, the Bolt EV's various operating modes cab be easily adjusted for any type of driving style.

The Chevrolet Bolt EV is a unique looking vehicle, especially since it has no front or rear overhang. It is actually more spacious than one would imagine, offering a roomy environment for drivers and passengers. The Bolt EV concept is constructed from lightweight materials, including aluminum, magnesium, carbon fiber, and even woven mesh. These materials, plus aero-optimizing features like vented rear fenders, help to reduce the curb weight and maximize range.

Inside of the Bolt EV there is plenty of exciting "technology and stuff". This concept vehicle featured a Bolt EV Connect app, which is designed to allow a smartphone to replace the key fob and provide ride-sharing management that includes reservations, vehicle location, and even payment processing via the smartphone. This app also incorporates the automatic park-and-retrevial technology, which allows the driver to exit the vehicle while their Bolt EV parks itself, then returns once summoned by the driver.
