New Smartphone Capabilities in 2016 Chevy Models

DURAND, Mich.– Our smartphones have become and extension of ourselves. Incorporating Android Auto and Apple CarPlay puts Chevy at the forefront of smartphone integration in vehicles! For the 2016 model year, 14 models will be equipped with new smartphone capabilities– that’s more than any other automaker! 

Updated smartphone capabilities in Chevy’s 2016 models are facilitated through the automaker’s MyLink infotainment system, which allows you to access your smartphone’s features without picking up the device. The 7-inch version of MyLink is capable with Android and Apple, however the 8-inch version is temporarily limited to Apple. It’s likely the 8-inch version will add Android-capability later in 2016.

You already know that both operating systems are loaded with useful features and now they will be available in your vehicle! Android Auto features: Google Maps, Google Now, a Google voice feature and audio and messaging apps while Apple CarPlay features: Phone, Messages, Music, Siri and third-party apps. If you have a device equipped with Android Lollipop 5.0 or newer or an iPhone 5 or later, you’re ready to begin using these new features!

Finally, to make using these smartphone system features even easier, 2016 Chevy models will come equipped with a button on the steering wheel that allows you to control them with a simple voice command, helping you avoid distractions and drive safe.

Chevrolet's Predictive Technology Improves Driver Assurance

DURAND, Mich. - Chevrolet will soon be able to foresee the future! Your vehicle's future that is. Chevy's predictive technology will help improve driver assurance by notifying drivers when specific vehicle components need attention - in many cases long before the vehicle's performance is impacted!

No other automaker in the industry is offering a technology quite like this! Chevrolet's predictive technology will help keep the most critical elements of your vehicle in check so that your Chevy will always be operating to the best of its ability. To start, the technology will focus solely on the vehicle's battery, starter motor, and fuel pump. Chevrolet has said that additional vehicle parts and components are expected to be added in future model years. 

Using OnStar 4G LTE connectivity, General Motors can oversee a vehicle's health, then notify the customer if the covered vehicle components need any sort of attention. The prognostic service uses OnStar 4G LTE to stream data from sensors within the vehicle. Once a customer has acquired this service, the data will be sent to OnStar's secure servers and proprietary algorithms will be applied to determine whether certain conditions could impact the vehicle's performance. Once the issue is addressed, notifications are sent to the customer via email, text message, in-vehicle alerts, or through the OnStar RemoteLink smartphone app. 

Chevrolet's predictive technology that will improve driver assurance is expected to be available on the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, Tahoe, Suburban, Corvette, Silverado, and Silverado HD models.
