GM Plans to Renovate Durant-Dort Factory One Near Downtown Flint

GM Plans to Renovate Durant-Dort Factory One near Downtown Flint

DURAND, Mich. –– Before his successful foray into a seminal automotive industry in 1908 –– an entrance that correspondingly altered the business to this day –– General Motors founder William Durant cut his teeth producing carriages under Durant-Dort Carriage Company with his business partner Josiah Dort. After years of disrepair and neglect, GM plans to renovate Durant-Dort Factory One near downtown Flint as an homage to the automaker's forefather, but also to continue stabilizing the future of Flint and its metropolitan area through urban rejuvenation.

GM will invest millions to restore and repurpose the high-bay area of the factory’s west wing as an archive for an impressive auto collection presently under supervision at Kettering University and other noteworthy Flint vestiges from the Durant era. The second floor of the factory’s east wing will be renovated as a GM executives meeting area, as well as a space for community and educational groups to hold STEM-related classes, seminars, and research.

Before tackling the interior project, GM will work with architects from SmithGroupJJR, based in Ann Arbor, who have experience overhauling historic buildings and constructing contemporary archives.

GM purchased the factory in 2013 and has since invested $3 million to restore the exterior with new windows and doors, plus the installation of a fence around a GM-owned parking lot across Water Street. GM plans to renovate the interior of Durant-Dort Factory One near downtown Flint in early 2016, and expects a completion date to appear sometime in 2017.

GM's investment in the factory dovetails with a series of investments around Flint, including $2 million into Kettering University to develop a powertrain laboratory, $2 million into Kettering by 2018 for an automotive proving ground for students, and $877 million into Flint Assembly for a new body shop. It will also renovate the Durant-Dort Carriage Company office building across the street from the factory.

With the uproar of activity occurring in and around Flint, we truly believe this community is on the cusp of serious revitalization. We absolutely love being a Flint area Chevy dealer with an awesome inventory of new Chevy cars and trucks, and we can't wait to see what GM does for its hometown.

Chevrolet Corvette Will Be One of the Last Performance Vehicles to Become Driverless

Chevrolet Corvette One of the Last Performance Vehicles to Become Driverless
© General Motors

DURAND, Mich. – Whether you like it or not, autonomous vehicles are quickly becoming a reality, and automotive executives predict driverless technology will be commonplace within the next 20 years.

It’s to the chagrin of many drivers who would prefer autonomous vehicles hit the road and drive far, far away from civilization. Bitterness fathoms from drivers who relish having control over their vehicles and fear that autonomous vehicle technology will strip them of the driving experience.

Fortunately, performance vehicles are untouchable right now, essentially out of reverence for their outstanding performance and style. These vehicles are manufactured to grant driver's enjoyment and control, which is why the Chevrolet Corvette will be one of the last performance vehicles to become driverless.

The news comes from comments made by Tadge Jeuchter, chief engineer for the Corvette, according to The Detroit News.

“We probably as a group will be the last to adopt autonomous technology,” Juechter said. “The whole purpose of our cars is to enjoy the driving experience, not to check out your email while you’re moving from one place to the other.”

Executives from Ford Motor Co. and Dodge joined Jeuchter to discuss the future of performance cars in the auto industry during “Horsepower Wars,” an annual business breakfast held by WWJ-950 at Duggan’s Irish in Royal Oak, Mich. The executives all agreed that one thing is very clear, despite all of ruckus over driverless cars – We’re living in the pinnacle age for performance vehicles. No wonder Juechter said the Chevrolet Corvette would be one of the last performance vehicles to become driverless.

Regardless of how quickly autonomous vehicle technology can transform the automotive landscape, vehicles will always need routine maintenance – driverless or not. Make sure you get into our Genesee county area used car dealer for regular oil changes and any other auto service your car may need!

Chevy is Prepared to Help Cruisers at the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise

Chevy is Prepared to Help Cruisers at the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise
© General Motors

DURAND, Mich. – Although we’re getting revved up for Back to the Bricks, happening this week in downtown Flint, Mich., we know many of you may be heading down to the Detroit area for the world-famous annual Woodward Dream Cruise presented by Chevrolet for the fifth year on Saturday, Aug. 15.

As the official presenting sponsor, Chevy is prepared to help cruisers at the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise with its Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad. The fleet of six 2015 Silverado pickup trucks will be on hand to assist any cruisers whose classic vehicle stalls, overheats, runs out of gas along Woodward Ave. on the day of the cruise.

Although Chevy is prepared to help cruisers at the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise, the automaker would prefer to see cruisers enjoy the day rather than get bogged down by nightmarish car trouble – after all, this is the Dream Cruise. Here are some tips Chevy recommends cruisers heed before they hit the strip:

  • Battery – Ensure that your battery is charged, the terminals are clean, and the alternator belt and distributor cap are free of any unusual wear or aging.
  • Fluids – Measure your cruiser’s fluid levels and make sure they’re at the proper levels. Bring extra fluids for top-offs to ensure that your cruiser is capable of operating for several hours.
  • Gas – Don’t start cruising without a full tank, and beware of inaccurate gas gauges that can be common in classic cars due to their old age.
  • Tires – Make sure your tire pressure is good and isn’t leaking. Check for any abnormalities such as cracks.
  • Wiper Blades – Hopefully the sky stays blue, but in the case of rain you’ll want a pair of well-functioning wiper blades.

In the event that your cruiser does run into an inconvenient issue, you can rest assured that your vehicles will be in good hands when the Rescue Squad comes around. The Rescue Squad is made up of ASE certified technicians from local Chevy dealerships, and you know how great Chevy dealership service is – just look at Hank Graff Chevrolet Durand!

Before you head off to the Woodward Dream Cruise, feel free to stop in at our Clio area used car dealer where you can get all of your pre-cruise auto service taken care of, including oil change, tires, brakes, and other miscellaneous car repair!

The Midnight Edition reveals the dark side the 2016 Colorado, and accentuates the stalwart design of the pickup. Like the rest of the truck, the blacked-out grille, Chevy bow tie, and 18-inch aluminum wheels add to the Midnight Edition’s tough image. In addition, you get a durable spray-on bed liner, folding tonneau cover, and Chevy-logo sill plates with this edition.

The simplest way to describe the Z71 Trail Boss is to say it looks exactly how you would assume it performs on the roughest terrains. Its rugged looks are an obvious brag about the 2016 Colorado’s athleticism, which is presented through a sport bar with LED trail lighting; black-finished 17-inch aluminum wheels with Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac 265/65R17 all terrain tires; fender flares; tubular assist steps; and all-weather floor mats. Like its blacked-out evil twin, the Trail Boss also boasts a black Chevy bow tie and spray-on bed liner.

The 2016 Chevy Colorado Midnight Edition and Z71 Trail Boss available fall 2015 both come with extended crew cabs and bodies, as well as in 2WD or 4WD with 2.5-liter or 3.6-liter engines. If you want the pinnacle package, consider getting either of the editions with the new 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine available for the 2016 Colorado. As much as we love the previous Colorado generation, we're ready to put those pickups with the other used cars and trucks at our Genesee County area used car dealer  because we're so excited to make room for the 2016 Colorado special editions!

2016 Chevrolet Volt Achieves Impressive Fuel Economy

2016 Chevrolet Volt Achieves Impressive Fuel Economy
© General Motors

DURAND, Mich.– Are you still a skeptic when it comes to electric vehicle technology? We understand your apprehension about the dependability of an electric system as opposed to sticking with the traditional gasoline engine, but the 2016 Chevrolet Volt achieves impressive fuel economy that could change your mind.

Here’s why you should love the Volt: You can drive it 53 miles on pure electricity, up 15 miles from the current Volt, but even more convincing is the Volt achieves 106 miles per gallon electric when you combine the electric drive modes and gasoline operation. On top of that, you get 42 mpg without using the electric drive modes, so either way you’re getting amazing gas mileage.

Right now, Volt owners drive on the vehicle's battery 80 percent of the time. Chevrolet expects that number to increase to 90 percent with the 2016 Volt, and projects it will be capable of traveling 1,000 miles before needing a gas fill-up.

Those are some hefty claims, but the new Volt’s 246-pound weight loss and a new, more efficient 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine definitely play into the improved mpg specifications. Comparatively, the new Volt gets 106 mpg combined to the current Volt’s 37 mpg combined –– that’s a serious upgrade.

The caveat is you’ll end up paying $33,995 for the new Volt, which is more than the current model. However, it seems completely worth it when the 2016 Chevrolet Volt achieves impressive fuel economy, plus the price really isn’t too steep considering how much other comparable sedans cost. You can order yours sometime between late August and fall 2015 at our Clio area Chevy dealer where we also have plenty of certified pre-owned cars and trucks.
