Chevrolet Silverado’s Steel Bed Outperforms Ford F-150

Chevrolet Silverado’s Steel Bed Outperforms Ford F-150
DURAND, Mich., – Are you team Chevy or team Ford? We hope if you’re reading this you’re team Chevy, because in the latest side-by-side comparisons of the Silverado and the F-150, the Chevrolet Silverado’s steel bed outperforms Ford F-150 and its aluminum bed.

Chevrolet conducted three field demonstrations shown in their newly released video footage. A scientific test was performed using a wedge shaped striker demonstrating the trucks ability to hold up in the case of high impact damage, and a real-world example test was conducted of a heavy tool box being pushed into the truck beds. But the most dramatic test performed was the dropping of 55 landscaping blocks weighing 825 pounds from 5 feet above the truck beds. In all three tests, Chevrolet’s steel bed outperformed the aluminum bed in the F-150.

In the conversation surrounding the #SilveradoStrong campaign on social media, many Ford fans have pointed out that in real world situations a bed-liner would be in place. We don’t think that changes things though, considering that the tests clearly identify which material is stronger.

Although aluminum is a much lighter substance than steel, it’s important to note that if the steel on the Silverado bed were to be damaged, it’s generally much easier to repair than it’s aluminum competitor.

So what do you think? We think the videos clearly show that the Chevrolet Silverado’s steel bed outperforms Ford F-150 and its aluminum bed. Do you think the tests were harsher than any real world situation that would be presented to a pickup truck and its owner? We think the extremity of the demonstrations shows Chevy’s durability and strength, and we think you should be able to use your truck as a truck.

Chevrolet Will Offer a Limited Number of 2016 Silverados with eAssist

DURAND, Mich. ––A truck with improved fuel-efficiency. sounds enticing, doesn't it? Chevy will be adding a little more electrification to its already impressive lineup. Chevrolet will offer a limited number of 2016 Silverados with eAssist, which will achieve 13% better fuel economy in city driving.

The electric Chevrolet family of vehicles including the Volt, Malibu Hybrid, Spark EV, and Bolt EV-starting production in late 2016- will see a new member joining them in a limited number in 2016 and possibly larger number in 2017. Chevrolet will be producing 500 eAssist Silverados for 2016 and, based on feedback from consumers, will adjust the number for 2017. The eAssist Silverados will be released exclusively to dealerships in California in 2016. These trucks will utilize technology from the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid and Chevrolet Volt, specifically the battery from the Malibu and software controls from the Volt.

What is eAssist exactly? It's a propulsion system powered by a 24-cell lithium-ion battery pack located under the center console or front bench. The eAssist will be a $500 premium over a 2-wheel drive 1LT comparable, and is powered with a 5.3L EcoTech V-8 automatic transmission. EPA estimates the Silverado eAssist will get 18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway which is a 13% increase from its non-eAssist counterpart.

How exactly does the eAssist save you on fuel in the Silverado?

  • The electric on-board motor provides 13-hp and 44 lb-ft of extra power during acceleration and passing.
  • The electric motor actually allows the engine to work longer in 4-cylinder mode which leads to the improved fuel economy.
  • Better fuel economy is also achieved through the seamless stop/start engine capability, so when you're sitting in traffic you'll be saving instead of wasting. The engine automatically turns back on when the accelerator is pressed.
  • Regenerative braking is also utilized for recycled power to the on-board battery.
“Silverado already leads the full-size truck segment in V8 fuel economy,” said Sandor Piszar, marketing director for Chevrolet Trucks. “For customers and small-business owners who use their trucks for more urban driving, the addition of eAssist can further reduce their fuel costs without sacrificing the utility they expect in a full-size truck.”

Not only does this truck lead in fuel economy, but the 2013 Silverado HD also leads the Large Heavy Duty Pickup segment in dependability from JD Powers latest study. If you're itching to get your hands on the steering wheel of a long-lasting truck, or can't simply wait for the eAssist Silverado to make it to a dealership near you, we have 2016 Chevrolet Silverados waiting for you to test-drive. We also have JD Powers' other leading vehicles in dependability- the Midsize Malibu and the Compact SUV Equinox.

2016 Chevrolet Silverado Updates to Help Drive Pickup Sales

© General Motors

DURAND, Mich.– Built with high strength steel and eye-popping design, there should be no doubt in your mind that the Chevrolet Silverado the highest performing truck of its segment, and Chevy takes measures to ensure the pickup stays on top.

Since introducing an all-new Silverado 1500 in 2013, Chevy has been keen on updating its popular pickup each model year, and the results are staggering. Since 2013, Chevy pickup sales have skyrocketed by 14.6 percent through June 2015, and with pickup sales up by 32 percent for the current model year, Chevy is out to prove its trucks are the best with some astounding 2016 Chevrolet Silverado updates to help drive pickup sales.

Much like the 2016 Camaro and the 2016 Impala, the 2016 Silverado will deliver design, performance and technology upgrades on a silver platter to Chevy customers, including:

  • A more robust, powerful looking design that moves away from the 2015 Silverado’s boxy look
  • Expanded use of the Silverado’s 8-speed transmission
  • Innovative safety technologies
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability

Unfortunately, Chevy hasn’t released any further details about the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado updates to help drive pickup sales, but Chevy will debut the 2016 Silverado this fall and all will be revealed.
