Chevy Gives Auto Show Attendees 4-D Virtual Reality Experience

DURAND, Mich.,–– If you didn't get a chance to make a trip to the North American International Auto Show, you missed out on a wild ride. Imagine going on a virtual experience behind the wheel of a Chevy vehicle where you track through various terrains and testing sites. The popular automotive company offered a behind-the-scenes look at vehicle testing. Chevy gave auto show attendees a 4-D virtual reality experience that was truly entertaining and offered guests a realistic look at how each vehicle is tested on the road.

Chevy Gives Auto Show Attendees 4-D Virtual Reality Experience

"Chevrolet is committed to delivering high-quality, durable vehicles to withstand some of the harshest weather conditions and most unique driving situations people encounter today," said Alan Batey, president of GM North America and head of Global Chevrolet. "With this new Chevrolet Virtual Dynamics Lab experience, we are offering consumers the opportunity to be immersed in our rigorous testing processes and to better understand the capability built into our lineup of vehicles."

This curated 4-D experience offers attendees a virtual 360-degree ride in the front passenger seat of a vehicle that takes on several different types of terrain. These courses include gravel roads, extreme temperature labs, and rock climbs that can be found at GM's various testing facilities.

Take a glance at GM's Testing:

* Before the first 2019 Silverado is delivered, it will accumulate a whopping 7 million miles of testing and validation.

* GM's Milford Proving Ground test facility encompasses around 4,000 acres of surfaces that equal about 137 miles of 2 lane road. This distance would take you from Detroit all the way to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

* The chambers that each vehicle is tested in simulate intense environmental conditions, which include temps from -40 degrees to 130 degrees Fahrenheit, humidity from 10 to 90 percent, altitudes from -700 to 12,500 feet., and wind speeds from 0 to 100 mph.

8 Tips to Stay Healthy During Flu Season

DURAND, Mich.,–– Yes, flu season is upon us. No, you don't have to run to your nearest CVS to get a flu shot. Although receiving a flu vaccine may help payoff in preventing illness, it's not the ultimate solution. Flu season is heating up, which means it's increasingly important to be mindful of your health this time of year. According to The New York Times, about 6% of all Americans seeking medical attention have flu-like symptoms. Beat the odds this winter with these 8 tips to stay healthy during flu season:

8 Tips to Stay Healthy During Flu Season

1. Always wash your hands!
Viruses spread from people who are infected when they sneeze, rub their eyes, or blow their nose. It is encouraged that people keep their hands out of their mouths, avoid rubbing their eyes, and wash their hands several times a day.

2. Get plenty of sleep.
A lack of sleep can lower your immune system. Getting enough sleep at night will keep your body's natural defenses working at their best.

3. Exercise often.
Working out is proven to decrease stress as well as boost your immune system. Getting sufficient exercise will also promote a healthy night's sleep.

4. Keep yourself hydrated.
Drinking a lot of liquids, like water, will keep your systems flushed and lessen your chance of catching the flu. Hydration is a key component in staying healthy, especially during this time of the year!

5. Use tissues for sneezes and coughs.
This is a simple and easy way to reduce the spread of germs. Dispose of your tissues immediately after use.

6. Stay home from work or school.
If you start to show flu-like symptoms, stay home! Spending excessive energy during your daily functions can be too much on your immune system.

7. Eat a vitamin-enriched diet.
Give your immune system a boost by eating foods high in Vitamin D, C, and E, such as fish, milk, and citrus fruits. There are also many supplements you can take that provide the essential vitamins you need. Avoid eating foods high in sugar as they can impair your immune system.

8. Go to the doctor.
If your symptoms become worse, seek immediate medical attention. The flu is a dangerous infection that can make your body vulnerable to much worse illnesses.

Avoid catching the flu this season by making small lifestyle changes and picking up better habits. It's easy to forget the effect that sleep, exercise, and food has on our bodies, which is why these 8 tips to stay healthy during flu season help reinforce the importance of staying on top of our well-being. Although avoiding major crowds and the cold temps are at the top of your list this time of year, don't be afraid to get outside and participate in the winter fun. Take a stab at one of these Pure Michigan winter activities. Just make sure to bundle up before you head outside! Staying on top of your vehicle's care is just as important as your health. Get your car up to speed on its routine maintenance to ensure it keeps you safe on the road this season!

6 New Year's Resolutions for Your Car

DURAND, Mich.,–– Now that the new year is in full swing, there are lots of things to plan and prepare for. Staying on top of resolutions and achieving new goals are all a part of our "new year plan". Most people don't realize the importance of taking care of their vehicles. As beneficial as it is to set goals for yourself at the start of the new year, it's just as beneficial to maintain proper care of your vehicle. Whether it's performing basic maintenance or keeping it clean, these 6 new year's resolutions for your car will help you stay on top of the things we often lose sight of with our vehicle:

6 New Year's Resolutions for Your Car

1. Maintain better driving habits.
It's easy to get into a bad habit behind the wheel of your vehicle. Whether it's texting and driving or riding close behind another car, we're all guilty of these negative practices. This year, make a pact to put down the device and be more cautious and patient with other drivers on the road.

2. Keep fuel-efficiency in mind.
Aggressive driving and constant speeding can negatively impact your vehicle's fuel economy. Slow down and give yourself more time to get to your destination this year. Be mindful of your vehicle's fuel consumption and monitor your driving habits.

3. Regularly check the condition of your tires.
Especially in the winter season, maintaining your tire's air pressure and tread is critical. Cold temps can decrease the air pressure in your tires. Low tire tread can make it easy to slide during snowy and icy road conditions. Make sure to frequently check your tire pressure and look out for bald spots on your vehicle's tires.

4. Manage your vehicle's interior.
Clean out your car regularly to ensure the interior upholds its highest quality. There's nothing more frightening than having your friends, family, or significant other get into your dirty and messy vehicle. Consistently throwing out trash and maintaining a sense of cleanliness will add to the value of your vehicle.

5. Make sure your fluids are topped off.
Rain, snow, sleet, or hail, you'll want to make sure you have windshield wiper fluid readily available to help clear your windshield when you need it most. Along with this critical fluid, you'll want to make sure your engine oil, transmission fluid, and even power steering fluid are always topped off.

6. Schedule routine maintenance.
This could be the most important new year's resolution of them all. Maintaining a regular service schedule for your vehicle is essential in ensuring that it continues to perform at its best. Whether it's something as basic as an oil change or something as critical as getting a new set of tires, you can schedule routine maintenance with our service center at Graff Durand.

Your vehicle is a large investment that is crucial to stay on top of. Even the smallest things make a big difference down the road. Set goals for yourself to keep better track of your vehicle's care with our list of 6 new year's resolutions for your car. The Do's and Don'ts of Winter Driving

DURAND, Mich.,–– Winter driving is not only dangerous, but it is unpredictable as well. You never know what it's going to be like on the roads in Michigan during the cold and snowy season. Even the most skillful drivers have a hard time handling road conditions. The chances of getting in an accident are high, which means you must be more cautious on the road than ever. Stay safe and drive in confidence by following our do's and don'ts of winter driving.

The Do's and Don'ts of Winter Driving

What to do:

Vehicle Preparation
  • Test your battery out. If it's weak, replace it as soon as possible.
  • Check your tire's tread and replace worn tires with a new set of all-season or snow tires.
  • Make sure to check your tires' air pressure, as they tend to shrink in the winter.
  • Top off your windshield wiper fluid and replace your windshield wipers if they are worn.
  • Keep an ice scraper on hand.
  • Keep a set of jumper cables in your trunk.
  • Try to carry at least half a tank of fuel. Fuel lines can freeze if there isn't a lot of gas in your tank.
  • Get your brakes checked out to ensure they are in good enough shape to handle excessive winter braking.
  • Make sure to perform routine maintenance on your car as soon as possible.
  • Remove all piled snow off the top of your vehicle before you begin to drive.
  • Prepare an emergency kit that includes items such as a blanket, flashlight, and small shovel.

Vehicle Driving
  • Warm up your vehicle first before you begin to drive. Once you start driving, take it slow the first little bit to ensure the engine heats up properly.
  • Accelerate slower when it's icy and snowy out.
  • Leave yourself plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you (at least double the normal amount).
  • Brake at a slower pace and larger distance.
  • Anticipate traffic lights ahead of time.
  • Keep your eyes pealed at all times. It's best to be aware of your surroundings in extreme road conditions.
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY: Take your time! Nothing is more important than your life.

The Do's and Don'ts of Winter Driving

What not to do:

Vehicle Driving
  • Don't warm up your car in the garage or an enclosed space.
  • Don't warm up your car by idling it. Give it time to warm up on its own and drive slowly the first little bit.
  • DO NOT TAILGATE. You should give yourself twice the amount of space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Keep your vehicle's momentum going up a hill. Don't accelerate, but maintain a steady pace to stop yourself from getting stuck or sliding back down.
  • Do not slam on your brakes. If a car abruptly stops in front of you, it's better to pull off to the side as you start to brake instead of pushing hard on your brakes and sliding forward.
  • Don't stop if you can avoid it. Try slowing down enough to keep your vehicle rolling until a traffic light changes.
  • Don't take sharp turns at a fast pace. Make sure to slow your vehicle down much more than normal so that your vehicle doesn't slide around the turn.
  • Don't use your cruise control in icy or snowy road conditions.
  • Do not overcorrect if you start to spin out or lose control. Try to steer into the skid so that you regain more control instead of completely spinning out.
  • Not everyone knows how to drive in the snow, so always be aware of other drivers.
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY: Stay home if you can! It's better to stay off the road in dangerous conditions to protect the safety of yourself and others.

Winter road conditions are not ideal for driving on. Although it's best to stay indoors if at all possible during severe weather, in the event that you do have to venture out onto the roads, take your time and be as cautious as possible. Follow our do's and don'ts of winter driving for a safer bet this cold and snowy season. By making sure your vehicle is up to date on routine maintenance and ready to handle harsh roadways, you'll remain safer when you drive and be at ease knowing that you are prepared for the winter conditions. Check out our Winter Car Care tips for a complete checklist of how to get your vehicle in winter ready shape. If you're in need of service, schedule an appointment online with us today!

8 Ways to Defeat the Post-Holiday Blues

DURAND, Mich.,–– The holidays can be one of the most wonderful and most stressful times of the year. As much as they may drive us crazy, it can be a depressing time when they finally come to an end. Since the focus is shifted on other priorities during the holiday season, it's hard to get back in the swing of your normal routine once the new year begins. You may have a mountain of clothes that need to be washed, several bills to pay, or even a lot of reorganizing that needs to be done. This wall of misery hits us hard as soon as we realize there's nothing else to look forward to. So, how do you beat the gloom? Here are 8 ways to defeat the post-holiday blues:

8 Ways to Defeat the Post-Holiday Blues

  1. Unpack, put away, and reorganize your clothes: Go away for the holidays? Unpack your suitcase and travel luggage immediately to avoid the added stress. If you received new clothes for Christmas, reorganize your closet and put them away.
  2. Take it easy for a while: Don't volunteer to take on any extra work. It's okay to slowly work your way back into your regular routine.
  3. Regain control of your bank account: Assess the damage of holiday shopping and establish a new savings plan. This will help alleviate stress and boost your mental health.
  4. Focus on yourself: When's the last time you took a hot bath or sat down to enjoy your favorite activity? It's good for your health when you take the time to relax and unwind.
  5. Start a new workout routine: If you indulged in sweet treats and expansive dinners during the holidays, it's always good to work on your fitness for the start of the new year. Burning off those extra calories will not only keep you energized, but you'll feel happier as well.
  6. Make your favorite meal from the holidays: Was there a dish that you just couldn't get enough of during your holiday break? Recreate it in your own kitchen and liven up your taste buds with the flavors you've been craving.
  7. Frame your favorite holiday memories: Once you're settled back in at home, take time to look through all the pictures that you took. Relive the moments spent with friends and family over the holidays. Pick out a couple of your favorite pics and frame them for your home so that you can cherish the memories forever.
  8. Plan your next big event or vacation: Visit a place you haven't been to yet or try something you've been wanting to do. Having something to look forward to is a great way to boost your mood as you begin to prepare for it.

It's hard to pick back up where you left off before the holidays began. Where to start? What to do? As reality begins to sink in after the festive season, it's best to get back on track with your daily routine. Before the despair settles in, start one of our 8 ways to defeat the post-holiday blues.
