If you’re a fan of the Chevrolet Volt, you will appreciate the new Malibu Hybrid because it leverages technology directly from the Volt. The Malibu uses a slightly modified drive unit and electric motors used in the Volt; however, it has an all-new hybrid power train all-together.
The 2016 Malibu Hybrid will get you a GM-estimated (EPA estimates pending) 48 mpg city and 45 mpg highway, which is leading in the midsize car segment. Under the hood, an Ecotec 1.8L hybrid optimized direct-injected engine is paired with a two-motor electric drive unit.
New safety features will be included on the Malibu Hybrid. Technologies include: Front Pedestrian Braking, Low Speed Front Automatic Braking, and Lane Keep Assist. Notably included is the feature Teen Driver, which is the first in-vehicle system in the industry that shows parents how the teenager drove the vehicle. It can also mute audio or any other device when seat belts aren’t on.
