Simple Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day by Staying In

Simple Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day by Staying In

DURAND, Mich.–– Valentine's day is all about you, your loved one, and finding special ways to say "I Love You". A common misconception is that Valentine's Day activities and gifts need to be expensive to show validity of your love. Sometimes the best acts of love come from the heart, and from simply spending time with each other. There are plenty of ways to celebrate the love-filled occasion without making it a large production. To help you out and to save you a little money, we've come up with simple ways to celebrate Valentine's Day by staying in!

Have a Movie or TV Show Marathon

This idea is very simple, but worth mentioning! With our busy and stressful lives, it's hard to find time to relax together. This Valentine's Day is your chance, especially because the holiday falls on a sunday and it will be very chilly outside. Grab your favorite movies or cue up your favorite TV shows on Netflix or On Demand, a fuzzy blanket and socks, then cozy up with each other on your couch to binge watch. Make the occasion more festive and have some valentine chocolate or candy!

Cook a Meal Together

Slow down a little bit and cook a nice meal with each other this Sunday. Cooking is a great bonding experience because it gets you both to work together. Plus you get to reap the reward afterward. Pick a special meal that you both like, or a new one you'd like to try and enjoy your time together in the kitchen. For a little romance, make it a candle lit dinner!

Order-In Your Favorite Takeout

On the other hand, you both may not want to cook at all! Ordering up each others favorite takeout is the way to go, so you both feel special and satisfied. You can again make this special by putting candles on the table, or even dressing up for each other.

Play Games

If you're the ultra-competitive type, this might not be the way to go but playing games together is another fun and typically free bonding experience. Any game you can play with two people is on the table, even video games if you're both interested. Don't have any games? Hit up your local second-hand shop like Goodwill or Salvation Army to check out what they have for cheap.

Play 50 Questions

Ok, it doesn't have to be 50 questions. Getting to know your significant other isn't just something that happens at the beginning of dating each other it happens throughout time because, as humans, we're always changing. Even if you have been dating for a long time, there may be things that you've never addressed! Some question examples: "What's your favorite memory you have of us?" "What's your dream vacation like?" "What's something on your bucket list?" etc. This game can help you in the long run by giving you ideas of how to surprise your loved one in the future.

Dance

Turn on the radio, Pandora, or your iPod and just dance! It might be a while since you two have tangoed together. Dancing relieves stress, gets your body moving, and allows you to be close and connected to your partner. Slow or fast, this is a fun way to bond. For a way to really mix it up, go searching for dance tutorials on YouTube and learn a dance together.

Create a Scavenger Hunt

Make sure to set this up while your partner is away or have them go to an area of your house where they can't see. Use post-its or paper to write clues to each stop on the hunt. Include memories of you together to make the clues special and personalized. Have the clues lead to a spot where you have their gift, or have a small gift at each stop.

Hopefully these simple ways to celebrate Valentine's Day by staying in will have you spending quality time with each other this Sunday to make for a memorable Valentine's Day.
