DURAND, Mich.–– We might be getting ahead of ourselves but with the recent good weather we've started day dreaming out springtime! Our great state has a lot to offer once the snow clears and after being cooped up inside all winter, it's time to take advantage of it. Now there's a strong chance that writing of this blog will evoke some kind of weather karma and earn us another huge blizzard or two, but we still suggest you read the (probably too early) list of things to do in Michigan this spring!

Run a 5k

Winter has a tendency make us a little more sluggish and inactive, so start your spring with a healthy change by taking up a running regimen. You can set yourself an achievable goal by signing up for one of the many 5k's  There's even "Couch-to-5k" training routines you can do to get yourself ready to for the big race!

Play Disc Golf

Disc golf is one of the hottest new sports activities sweeping the nation, and the best part is it's that difficult to pick up! Use it as an excuse to get outside and you'll be surprised how quickly you'll be hooked! There are even competitive leagues you can join all around the state.

Go Fishing

Fishing a wonderful pastime that even your youngsters can enjoy. Find the best local fishing holes for a great place to spend a Saturday morning trying to reel in the big kahuna!

Visit a Waterpark

Take a visit to one of the many indoor waterparks around Michigan, like the Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City. The Great Wolf Lodge water park has multiple pools, slides, hot tubs, and a lazy river as well as an awesome arcade, multiple fun themed restaurants, and animal story time. It's a trip you're family will cherish for a long time to come.

Take in the Tulip Festival

You'll be hard pressed to find a sight more beautiful this spring than the Tulip Festival in Holland, MI. Celebrating the blooming period of these gorgeous flowers and their seemingly unlimited colors along with the the Dutch history of the state.

Visit the Zoo

The Detroit Zoo is open now and as the weeks go on more and more of the animals will be out enjoying the sun! Thankfully though, even while the weather is cold you can visit The Detroit Zoo's world class arctic exhibit where the animals are loving the current weather.

Check Out the Meijer Gardens Butterflies

During March through April, thousands of tropical butterflies from all around the world will be hatching and flying around the Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids and you can see them in person. It's a breathtaking sight that is definitely worth the drive over to the westside of the state.
